Neptune Frost

Directed by Saul Williams, Anisia Uzeyman

Burundi, Rwanda, United States
2022, 105 min

A wildly imaginative and unconventional Afrofuturist sci-fi musical, Neptune Frost interrogates the notion of technological progress from the vantage point of those who are living in the places being exploited to achieve it. It tells the story of a group of escaped coltan miners who form an anti-colonialist computer hacker collective in the hilltops of Burundi. They soon attempt a takeover of the authoritarian regime that’s exploiting the region’s natural resources and its people. Originally envisioned for the stage, the film is infused with visually striking costumes and set decorations and an original music score.

In Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Swahili, French and English with English subtitles.
